The suspension of Russia’s participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) will not cause significant changes in bilateral inspections, US Deputy Defense Chief Colin Kahl said.

“From a practical point of view, the suspension will not lead to significant changes … Russia has not met the inspection requirements as it is,” he was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

On 21 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was suspending its participation in the START.

Putin also noted that he could not imagine US inspections at Russian nuclear facilities.

At the same time, he said, the Russian side does not object to the participation of NATO countries in the discussion on nuclear parity.
